“Mr. Speaker, this is an extraordinary process that we use when we consider a bill the same day it is reported out. One of the concerns I have about the process is that I want to make sure the Members understand exactly what is in the bill that they are asking to be considered and the process that it went through. I think it is important to point out that the underlying bill that we are talking about contains many important changes in the Tax Code that are supported on both sides of the aisle. There is no question that Democrats support an extension of the 10 percent bracket provision, child credits and marriage penalty relief, and certainly Alternative Minimum Tax relief, where more and more of our constituents are falling within the Alternative Minimum Tax, and extension of the so-called extenders, the research and others that would otherwise expire. But this is where the bipartisanship ends, because there has not been an effort made to do this in a way that is in the best interests of the taxpayers of this country.”
