This is my final scheduled hearing of what is now called the CJS Subcommittee.

I join with you in your enthusiasm to welcome our wonderful witnesses today.

We, in Maryland, are here to support the nomination of Dr. Hayden to be the chief librarian of the Library of Congress.

We are looking forward to hearing what she has to say about how we can use this other form of American power.
