I think it is important to keep this in context.

There are a lot of achievements that the railroads have made, which should be noted by the public.

Companies rely on motor carriers to move their goods across the country, and when they enter into a contract, they assume that their products will be transported safely.

Every year, there are over 100,000 truck crashes in the U.S. that result in injuries--100,000. Four thousand of these crashes result in deaths.

And that is why this past February, I reintroduced H.R. 915, the Motor Carrier Safety Selection Standard Act.

H.R. 915 would require the FMCSA to begin the process of developing a new Safety Fitness Determination (SFD) process.

Yet today, there is no way for shippers to verify the safety of their motor carriers.
