I rise to express my profound sympathy for the victims of this terrible tragedy and their families and friends. I cannot begin to imagine their pain, but my thoughts and prayers, and the thoughts and prayers of men and women across America are with them during this difficult time. It is hard to find words to express the sadness and outrage I feel over this heinous act of terrorism and cowardice. This is an assault on democracy and the very freedom that, until yesterday, many of us took for granted. We must stand together to protect our freedom and to ensure that the forces of terror do not diminish our spirit. Congress and the President must now work together in a bipartisan fashion to make sure that our nation has the resources it needs to overcome this tragedy, and to bring those responsible for these terrible crimes to justice.
