it was nonsense last June when President Bush and the Republicans argued that we could have a $1.5 trillion tax cuts and not raid Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid. It is nonsense on stilts after September 11, after the deficits, after all that has happened, that they now want to permanently extend those tax breaks for the wealthiest 2 percent because they are now going to permanently raid Medicare, permanently raid Social Security, permanently raid Medicaid, which provides nursing home care for every person in America with Alzheimer's. This is a shameful day in the history of this country when such a vote can be taken.
