From these expressions, and other tokens which daily greet us, it is evident that at last the religious sentiment of the country is touched, and, through this sentiment, I rejoice to believe that the whole North will be quickened with the true life of Freedom.
Sumner expresses hope that the religious sentiment in the country will invigorate the North's commitment to freedom.
