About 20 percent of the residents of this city, representing about 4,000 families, are yet to return to the community because of all sorts of challenges associated either with housing, employment, health, or others.

To give every child a fighting chance for a decent education as quickly as we can possibly do it, this subcommittee can.

Senator Mary Landrieu has been trying to hammer on that Army Corps of Engineer and keep a consciousness.

Once our attitudes change, our actions will change, and we will be more interested in meeting our energy needs in ways that don't destroy our forests.

We don't believe that a robust research program can answer every concern we've heard voiced about OCS development and shipping by residents of the North Slope Borough.

The Arctic needs a Coast Guard presence, and we wholeheartedly support the efforts, the good efforts, of Admiral Allen and his group.

I believe these kind of safeguards make even more sense in the Arctic than they do in development areas further south.

Such vast upside potential carries with it, I believe, a responsibility to use world-class standards and safeguards.

We do not want to repeat what happened in the Bering Sea donut hole in the high Arctic

The only reason that we were able, in my opinion... to secure that convention is because the pollock stocks collapsed

The United States is going to have to take a leadership role in shaping policy up there

The celebration of joy, that when a school would open in a neighborhood, what it meant to that community cannot be overestimated.

I would challenge the Federal Government to try to figure out, where are they?

I think this would be important.

There is something terribly wrong with the system of support at either the local, the State or the Federal level.
