I could not resist this tribute to the gentleman from Texas (Mr. Sam Johnson). When I think of many of America's heroes, individuals who were challenged, when you give your reflection, you know you were challenged. When America's children ask the questions: Who are our heroes? Do mentors still exist? Are there living idols? The answer is yes. Sam lived his life in such a manner that his character is formed with the virtues and values that have been tested. I am privileged to serve here in this body with him, and I know that he represents a lot of his comrades who served with him, some of whom were not the lucky ones because they did not get to come home. I know Sam holds them close to his breast in memory, along with their families. It is a true and distinct honor to serve in this body with you, Sam. Godspeed, my friend.

When the majority went to this process to be restrictive here on the floor with regard to amendments on appropriations, that was really a dark day for liberty, and it's really very, very unfortunate. And I understand the Speaker wants to…
I end with this: Tolerance does not require a moral equivalency. Think about it. This is a bad thing to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
