the Senator from Alaska has asked the Senate to consider adding wild salmon to the list of crops for a pilot study is to be conducted as a basis for making federally-sponsored crop insurance available to fishermen. My understanding is that this is not the first time that the Department of Agriculture would be reviewing fish stocks for crop insurance. In the past, there was concern that wild fish can be too hard to track, and that fisheries managers don't really know when the stocks have failed. However, fisheries managers track fish stocks, especially wild salmon, very closely.
