I would urge the Committee today to look carefully at all the guidance that is already out there.
I thank Representative Comstock for organizing this tonight. I just have a quick personal story, Mr. Speaker. Justice Scalia's daughter, Ann, lives in my neighborhood. I served in the State legislature, and I learned that this woman whose…
Mr. Marchant has gotten people's attention this afternoon. I am really surprised at how lively and engaged our friends are on the other side of the aisle. So, it begs the question: What is so provocative about this bill? What is so…
It is a problem vis-a-vis the Iranians, it is going to be a problem vis-a-vis any other bad actor.
Silence is assent. And the unwillingness to answer Chairman Ryan's question I think is troubling.
Time is short, so let me urge you to reconsider this OFAC question, because I think it is a problem.
I think there is unanimity on the committee that we want the IRS to follow the law as the law is written.
We need your help and we need your personal help substantively because we are meeting a lot of passive-aggressive folks that do not want to be helpful.
I just want to recap quickly how we got here. ObamaCare was passed on a partisan basis through the House and the Senate, signed into law, and then it went forward. It created a false premise, and the false promise that didn't come to…
An interesting thing happened when President Obama was elected in 2008: We basically had a national consensus about some elements of health care. What I mean by that is, most people recognized two things about our healthcare system that…
I thank Chairman Brady. Not long ago, the Internal Revenue Service reached out its long arm and decided to try and get between donors and 501(c)(4), (c)(5), and (c)(6) organizations. The IRS did something that was really provocative. What…
Yesterday, I introduced H. Con. Res. 100, a bipartisan resolution that reaffirms the rights of the 50 States to maintain economic sanctions against Iran. The Iran Sanctions Act of 2010 encourages and authorizes States to maintain such…
If they just think this Committee's going to lay back and not be a challenge to that, they are sorely mistaken.
I urge caution, because I am telling you what, we are interested, and we are particularly interested in making it difficult to do that.
I remain deeply concerned that the President will use nonnuclear sanctions to respond to Iranian misbehavior and illicit activity.
So it would promote more companies doing more business in Iran, paying more taxes in Iran, creating more revenue for the Iranian Government, and the result, allowing more resources to help direct terrorism activities.
It seems to me that the tax provisions are that much more important with this agreement.
I really believe this committee needs to continue to explore tax measures which discourage business with Iran while continuing, especially while Iran continues to fund terrorism.
But the only thing worse than Iran that does these things, is an Iran that does these things and has nuclear weapons.
The failure of the current administration to develop a sound security strategy policy for the Middle East should not preclude Congress from developing one against this menace of mankind.
