I am proud that these policies were included in H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which we passed in the House in March.

Congress has recognized the challenges that come with improving decades-old infrastructure and have provided critical funding and assistance to States since our State was hacked in 2016.

I am so thrilled that you joined us as we gaveled in this committee's first-ever hearing in the Illinois 14th Congressional District.

As we approach the 2020 elections it is critical that we work together to protect democracy's most sacred tradition: Free and fair elections.

But I would also like to thank Chairman--Vice Chair Underwood for inviting committee Members to Illinois to hear State and local perspectives on election security.

Election security requires a whole-of-government approach--Federal, State, and local--effort to protect America's elections.

I also applaud March for Our Lives peace plan for a safer America, which makes a number of recommendations to help ensure our communities are safe from gun violence.

Children should be free to live their lives and go to school without the fear of gun violence.

That is unacceptable and we need to fix it.

This bill directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to submit an annual report to Congress on gender-specific care available at VA facilities.

I am proud to serve both on Chairwoman Brownley's Women Veterans Task Force and on the Servicewomen and Women Veterans Congressional Caucus.

With the number of domestic terrorism arrests now approaching 100 this year, it is clear that domestic terrorism is a pervasive threat to our National security.

Confronting this epidemic means stopping the flow of synthetic opioids entering the United States from China and other countries.

A majority of the opioid fatalities in our country are linked to synthetic opioids like fentanyl.

In the United States, nearly 130 people die from opioid-related fatalities each day.

We are talking about a place that limits women's reproductive rights. That cannot be a great place to do business.

Strong laws that protect and empower workers must ensure that workers are clearly informed of their legal rights.

I am incredibly proud to cosponsor the Protecting the Right to Organize Act.

I am so glad that we are having today's hearing as part of the committee's ongoing work to protect the basic rights that American workers have fought so hard to win.
