State, county, and local law enforcement have been working together and coordinating to ensure public safety around the Broadview ICE facility, and to protect people's ability to peacefully exercise their constitutional rights.

For Donald Trump, this has never been about safety. This is about control.

My message of alarm is that the constitutional crisis is not on its way; it is here, and we all better start acting like it.

It’s been nearly 45 days since Secretary Noem has held an official press conference, so it’s time she faces the public and takes questions from the press to be held accountable for the Trump Administration’s gross misconduct.

There is no emergency that warrants deployment of troops. He is insulting the people of Chicago by calling our home a hellhole — and anyone who takes his word at face value is insulting Chicagoans, too.

The state of Illinois is ready to stand against this military deployment with every peaceful tool we have.

I refuse to pretend that any of this is normal. ... I refuse to fall into the pundit trap that demands we sacrifice vital constitutional rights if it’s being done in the fake guise of fighting crime.

Unidentifiable agents in unmarked vehicles with masks are planning to raid Latino communities and say they’re targeting violent criminals.

This is not about fighting crime. This is about Donald Trump searching for any justification to deploy the military in a blue city, in a blue state, to try and intimidate his political rivals.

I will not stand idly by

One violent crime is too many, and we have more work to do.

There is no emergency that warrants deployment of troops.

No, I will not call the president asking him to send troops to Chicago.

It’s an invasion with US troops, if they in fact do that.

It's clear that, in secret, they're planning this – well, it's an invasion with U.S. troops if they in fact do that.

This one doesn't seem to. He hasn't read any books. He doesn't seem to understand the Constitution or the laws.
