Political Quotes

On the recordSeptember 7, 1995
one of the really disturbing things that is happening in this country, and I believe it is due to the fact that we now have had three, indeed as many as four generations on welfare, is the destruction it does literally to the souls of those children who all they know is the welfare check. Our colleague from Florida, Congressman Dave Weldon, during his campaign for Congress, talked to a friend of his who was interviewing three children. And he asked, what do you want to do for a living? One said, I want to be a policeman, and the other one said, I want to be a fireman. And the third child said, I want to collect checks. I mean, I do not believe the people in this country are willing to cede personal liberty to the Federal Government in exchange for a promise of Government security. I really do not believe that they are willing to do that.
