Well, BP caused this spill. We don't yet know exactly what happened, but whether it's a combination of human error, them cutting corners on safety or a whole other variety of variables, they're responsible.
Barack Obama
The Public Record
Barack Obama served as the 44th President of the United States from January 20, 2009, to January 20, 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously represented Illinois in the U.S. Senate from 2005 to 2008 and served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 to 2004. Obama is known for his signature policies including the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and his efforts in economic recovery following the 2008 financial crisis. His presidency was marked by significant legislative achievements and a focus on healthcare reform, climate change, and foreign policy initiatives such as the Iran nuclear deal.
Has the president done enough? Has he made the emotional connection that so many people feel are necessary?
I think he needs to give the nation, in my opinion, a conservationist speech, talking about what an heirloom the Gulf of Mexico is and why we need to fight for it right now.

I have said in the past that we need to transition to a more clean energy future. But we're not going to do that overnight. We've got to have domestic oil production, and I am supportive of offshore drilling if it can be done safely and it…
You know, I am furious at this entire situation. Because this is an example of where somebody didn't think through the consequences of their actions. And it is imperiling not just a handful of people. This is imperiling an entire way of…
The lack of action to fix the broken system at the federal level is unacceptable.
The relationship between the United States and India will be a defining partnership in the 21st century.
The United States values our partnership not because of where India is on a map, but because of what we share and where we can go together.
Security measures alone won’t fix the broken borders; there needs to be comprehensive immigration reform.
I look forward to advancing our partnership, to experiencing all that India and its people and its incredible ancient culture have to offer.
Ultimately, this is about the people down in the Gulf who are being impacted.
India is indispensable to the future that we seek, a future of security and prosperity for all nations.
