The events of the last few days have made it clear that we must take further bold and decisive action to shore up confidence in our financial markets and avoid a deepening economic crisis that could jeopardize the life savings and…

It is critical at this point that the markets and the public have confidence that their work will be unimpeded by partisan wrangling, and that leaders in both parties work in concert to solve the problem at hand.

This plan must be temporary and coupled with tough new oversight and regulations of our financial institutions.

These extraordinary steps must be designed with only the public good in mind, not to enhance the personal gain of CEOs and management at taxpayers' expense.

Taxpayers must share in any upside benefit that such stability brings.

But it is now clear that even bolder and more decisive action is necessary.

We must also help Main Street as well.

You cannot just run away from the long-held views or your lifelong record. You can't erase 26 years of support for the very policies and people who helped to bring in some of the problems that we're seeing.

Don't just get rid of one guy. Get rid of this administration. Get rid of this philosophy. Get rid of the do-nothing approach to our economic problems, and put somebody in there who is going to fight for you.

It's never been harder to save or retire; to buy gas or groceries.

Our nation has faced difficult times before.

We cannot forget that there are many homeowners who are in crisis through no fault of their own.

I recognize the need for today's action by the Federal Reserve.

I will cut taxes - cut taxes - for 95% of all working families.

If you want real change - if you want an economy that rewards work... then I ask you to knock on some doors, and make some calls, and talk to your neighbors.

I refuse to accept that overcrowded, underfunded schools are the best we can do for our kids.

Their need to act quickly in a globally coordinated fashion to maintain the functioning of our financial system and the flow of credit to American households and businesses.

We can do this because Americans have done this before.

This time - this election - is our chance to stand up and say: enough is enough!

This isn't a time for fear or panic - this is a time for resolve and for leadership.

I will finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American.

The current financial market turmoil is a major threat to our economy.

We can't steer ourselves out of this crisis by heading in the same, disastrous direction.
