A six-month moratorium would destroy parishes and counties along the Gulf Coast that rely heavily on oil and gas as a way of revenue.

I say this with genuine regret. Individuals and institutions loaned Puerto Rico money, and Puerto Rico promised to pay them back with interest.

If the forthcoming bill seeks to extinguish rather than enhance our democracy at the local level, I will do everything within my power to defeat it.

I would agree with the observation of Mr. Weiss that it is crucially important that economic incentives be in place to allow the economic renewal in Puerto Rico to go forward.
