There is only one institution that is as old as humanity itself. There is only one institution that we know is right for raising children. There is only one institution that we know is best to teach our children our values of faith, our moral values; only one proven institution to transfer our work ethic to the next generation. There is only one institution that transfers all that we are as a people to our children and grandchildren and only one relationship between people that ensures the survival of the human race. All of human history, all that we were, all that we are and all that we are ever going to be is built upon one institution, the cornerstone of civilization. And that institution, Mr. Speaker, is marriage. Mr. Speaker, we owe too much to our Creator, too much to posterity and too much to our children to throw away marriage, redefine marriage for no more reason than to demonstrate tolerance. The active effort on the part of four unelected Massachusetts judges to impose same-sex marriage on all of America without the consent of the people is judicial tyranny.
