After serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and the Iowa Army National Guard--a historically male field--I became the first female combat veteran elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. But this pandemic has been tough on women in the workforce, threatening to derail the progress we have made. Before COVID, women made up the majority of the U.S. workforce, but 1 year later, women have lost over 2 million jobs--nearly 1 million more than our male counterparts.
