Daniel K. Inouye was a prominent Democratic politician from Hawaii who served as a U.S. Senator from 1963 until his death in 2012. He was the first Japanese American to serve in the U.S. Congress and was a decorated World War II veteran, receiving the Medal of Honor for his bravery in combat.
