as a Member of this body representing the State of Georgia, it gives me great pleasure to rise today to recognize a Georgia resident and my good personal friend, Davis Love, III, on being named the recipient of the 2013 Bob Jones Award. The award, named in honor of another great Georgia golfer, Robert Tyre Jones, Jr.--better known as Bobby Jones--is the U.S. Golf Association's highest honor and recognizes individuals for their distinguished sportsmanship in golf. Since 1955, the Bob Jones Award has been presented annually to an individual who ``emulates Jones' spirit, his personal qualities, and his attitude toward the game and its players.'' Past recipients include some of golf's alltime greats, such as Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tom Watson. And it comes as no surprise to see Davis Love's name added to this distinguished list. Davis and his wife Robin are longtime residents of Georgia, and Davis is receiving an award that embodies much of our State's rich golfing history. He has long been a champion of the game and embraced many of golf's finest traditions. Throughout his impressive career, Davis has represented our country with dignity and honor. In the 1985 Walker Cup match, Davis helped lead the USA team to a narrow 13-to-11 victory over Great Britain and Ireland by winning two matches on the final day of play.
