I thank Chairman Murphy for this great piece of legislation. I rise today in support of H.R. 2646, the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act. Too many families across America have experienced a loved one who is living with or has been diagnosed with a mental illness. Sadly, one in five children ages 13 to 18 have or will battle a mental illness. As a proud member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, I had the privilege of visiting schools across Georgia's 12th Congressional District and visiting with educators and staff members. School leaders from elementary school to college all say that mental health is one of their top concerns for the students. These heartbreaking statistics are more than data and numbers on a spreadsheet. They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, students, friends, and children. Mr. Speaker, I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of H.R. 2646.
