It's a great pleasure for me as President of our country to welcome to the United States such distinguished artists and performers from the People's Republic of China.

I have been strongly committed to a policy of affirmative action.

My successes you can blame on FFA; my failures you can blame on the fact that I left farming and went into the Navy for a while.

I propose rescission of $500 million in unneeded budget authority.

I am convinced of the need to increase our effort to achieve equal treatment for women throughout the Nation.

It is through such programs that we can expect to remove the effects of discrimination and ensure equal opportunities for all Americans.

The recent decision by the Supreme Court in Bakke enables us to continue those efforts without interruption.

This year we will far exceed that historic record.

We admire your great performances, and we believe that this will be one further step toward full normalization of relationships between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America.

We love our land, and part even of our religious conviction is that we should be good stewards of it.

This is the most ambitious cultural exchange that we've ever had with your country.

I want to make certain that the Administration's strong commitment to equal opportunity and affirmative action is recognized and understood by all Americans.

I'm deeply grateful for your visit to me.

I have made clear before that ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment is and will remain a priority with this Administration.

Leadership requires courage to confront challenges and the wisdom to know when to seek counsel.

Compassion and empathy are critical for creating a more equitable and just world.

I want to thank all members, both Democrats and Republicans, for the diligence and thoroughness with which they have worked.

I look forward to speedy House floor action on this legislation, which is so important to making our Government better serve the American people.

I feel that is a major accomplishment.

I am extremely pleased that the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee has today voted to report the civil service reform act.

Despite forecasts by some that this action would not come for some time, the committee has acted quickly and expeditiously.

I personally believe that the strong statement on controlling air piracy, terrorism, is in itself worth the entire preparation and conduct of the summit.

Our contributions have been mutually supportive.

We have dealt with the very serious problem of protectionism.

I have been very pleased at the results of this summit conference.
