Theodore E. Deutch is a former American politician who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Florida's 22nd congressional district from 2010 to 2022. A member of the Democratic Party, Deutch focused on issues such as healthcare, education, and environmental protection during his time in office. He was known for his advocacy on behalf of the Jewish community and for his work on foreign affairs, particularly regarding Israel. Deutch was also involved in various legislative efforts aimed at gun control and combating climate change.
It was intended to frighten domestic Egyptian NGOs from doing work anything remotely related to politics, democracy promotion, human rights.
The United States must send a clear and consistent signal to the Egyptian Government and whoever is in power...
Should Egypt succeed as a democracy this will bolster hopes for a stable Middle East.
I think that more funding needs to be devoted to this but most importantly a comprehensive strategy has to be devised by our Government in concert with the Europeans and other like-minded governments to advance this.
But I firmly believe that our partnership with Egypt is vital to ensuring the security of this country.
I trust that will be a positive and hopefully simple result to come from this hearing.
I think it is extremely important to continue to work on human rights and democracy in governance because we are looking at long-term stability.
