I am worried that the Trump Administration has provided a free pass for our regional partners on too many issues and that ultimately that may undermine our goals.

The Gulf has been a focal point of U.S. foreign policy under both Democratic and Republican administrations.

The late President George H. W. Bush acted on this doctrine when he sent a half a million U.S. troops to liberate Kuwait in 1991.

Yet, these ties have endured.

In his 1980 State of the Union Address, President Jimmy Carter articulated the Carter doctrine, which stated that the United States would use military force if necessary to defend its national interest in the Gulf.

Our partnerships with these States are enduring and many date back to the end of the Second World War.

I will never forget what those students spoke out about at that Politics Club and what happened since.

Do you think fees throughout the justice system help to criminalize poverty?

Did Amendment 4 need any additional action by the Florida legislature?

I frequently come back to the same issue, and that issue is money in politics and the need to overturn Citizens United to diminish the influence of money in politics.

And do you believe that the new fee requirement is discriminatory?

If the Trump administration believes that great power rivalry pits us against autocratic foes, then we ought to align ourselves with our democratic friends, operationally, not just rhetorically.

the humanitarian crisis at the border and the suffering of the Venezuelan people wrought by the Maduro regime.

As we watch closely what happens in Venezuela now as the Venezuelan people try to restore democracy in their country...

we offer support to the Colombians, the Lima Group, and nations around the world as Interim President Guaido works to restore democracy in the Nation of Venezuela.

when we say we are going to leave it up to others, when we say we are going to leave it up to the private sector, we miss out on the opportunity to lead.

Under this administration, America has now turned its back on those commitments, turned its back on the world, and turned its back on the future generations.

Let's show them by example that we debate tough issues, that Congress in the Constitution is given this responsibility and we meet the responsibility.

I support, I recognize Mr. Guaido as the legitimate leader of Venezuela.

This resolution is a step in the right direction, is a step in restoring responsibility and taking responsibility as the separate but coequal branch we are supposed to be.

Where is the urgency from my colleagues on this issue? This is not an issue that can wait 2 years and 4 years and 8 years and 12 years.

Your being here and speaking out is helpful for this Committee as we work to make sure that the government is doing everything that it can to address hate crimes.

As Floridians, Representative Castor and I know the impact of climate change because it is happening right now.
