It's critical for the United States to scale up our enterprise.

It's always worth remembering that in its 71-year history the NSF has played a vital role in advancing basic scientific knowledge across the spectrum of disciplines from engineering to biology.

I'm especially proud of their partnership with the State of Florida, that they engage thousands of high school students by providing precollege STEM education programming focused on aerospace applications.

We cannot make these major investments just to see it flow out the back door to our adversaries.

I'm excited about this hearing. I think it will provide an important opportunity to hear from a variety of stakeholders on how Congress can best leverage and expand the mission of the NSF.
