“The key difference between the Senator's amendment and mine is that his is not paid for. The reality is we in this Congress and in the Senate and in the White House need to understand we need to be fiscally responsible. That is a debate we have had here with respect to pay-go. It is my view, given the fact we already have a $10 trillion national debt that continues to grow, we have a war that now is projected to cost over $2 trillion that we have not funded, but we have allowed that credit card debt to basically be passed on to our children, we need to be fiscally responsible. My question to my good friend from Arizona, with whom I enjoy working on the Finance Committee, is: How would he propose that we pay for this $10 trillion mountain of debt, built up largely over the last 7 years?”
