Iran's goal is to become the regional hegemony.

They see American military presence in the region as a threat or an impediment to that goal, correct?

Senator Marco Rubio accused the Obama administration of shaping its policies in Iraq and Syria to make sure that it clinches a nuclear deal with Iran.

Someone is going to have to confront them eventually on the ground and defeat them there.

ISIS has already proven that they are going to move into--for a group to take root, and take hold, and actually be able to grow, they need ungoverned vacuum spaces that they can operate from.

Would it not be more prudent to authorize the Commander in Chief to move forward in that regard

They are our boots on the ground, and we need to get them what they need.

They are clearly as part of their effort trying to, again, using a term they would use, not one that I necessarily enjoy using, but 'cleanse the region' of infidels and non-believers.

Would it not be more appropriate to simply authorize the President to do whatever it takes to defeat them?

It is clear that the Christians and Yazidis, but recently we have seen Christians in particular, are in increased danger in this region, and they specifically target Christian populations for barbarity.

We frankly allow for our enemies to recruit more than we kill into the fight because of the presence of American troops.

If any future Secretary of Defense advised a President to deploy major numbers of combat troops back to the Middle East, that they should have their head examined.

When hundreds of thousands of American troops are there, we let our allies in the region off the hook.

We are daring to believe that diplomacy may be able to provide a better alternative to ridding Iran of the possibility of a nuclear weapon than war.

We have been leading the effort to curb Ebola.

We got, as you know, last year all the chemical weapons out of Syria.

The sanctions have had a profound effect. The ruble is down 50 percent.

We will win it. I am confident of that, providing we all make the right choices.

I have no doubt that President Obama loves this country, he did, however, take issue with his policies.

This is an important nomination, at a time when this country faces very significant national security threats.
