If you subsidize something, you will get more of it. The United States Government subsidizes illegitimacy. Amazingly enough, our Government has struck a deal with young women having illegitimate babies: We will give you cash, food, medical care. It is all guaranteed. More than likely, we will also give you housing. That is a package, my friends, that is worth $16,000 a year. It is guaranteed. For this, though, you must agree to two conditions: Do not work, and do not get married, and in return we will guarantee that you will live in a permanent state of dependency. Today 3 of 10 births in America are to unmarried women. The rate of black babies is a shocking 7 out of 10 babies. President Clinton has admitted that welfare plays a strong role in promoting illegitimate birth and single-parent families. Social scientists agree that children raised in single-parent families get less education, they are more likely to be on welfare as adults, and are more likely to commit illegal acts. It is clear that the presence of a male and a female role model in the house is essential to a well-rounded upbringing. But virtually no one disputes the fact that on the average kids from single-parent families have more problems than kids from two-parent families.
