I was amazed to read in this article that somebody could actually concoct a procedure this gruesome, and I was further shocked to read that the physicians who developed the procedure then went on to report that in 85 percent of the cases within which they do this procedure, there are no significant birth defects, and some of the defects that they cited, where they justified doing this procedure, included cleft lip and cleft palate. Mr. Speaker, I was shocked, and frankly I was amazed that I could live in a country where a procedure as gruesome and awful as this could be legalized.
