Darren Michael Soto is a U.S. Representative for Florida's 9th congressional district, serving since January 3, 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, Soto has focused on issues such as environmental protection, healthcare, and economic development. He has been an advocate for the Latino community and has worked on legislation to improve access to education and job opportunities. Soto has also been involved in discussions around climate change and disaster preparedness, particularly in relation to Florida's unique environmental challenges.
We are also really excited about the increase from 682 to $882 million for the Superfund sites.
I am very excited to see strong climate leadership from the Biden administration to boldly act on the climate crisis.
And by the way, in States like North Carolina and Florida we need to repair our storm water so that we can decrease the flooding that we are seeing because of inadequate infrastructure, as well as our wastewater treatment facilities…
In Florida we face intensifying hurricanes, rising sea levels, and if we do nothing to bend the curve on emissions we will see over 100 extremely hot days a year by 2050.
What about foreign scams? We have a very international, very diverse community in Florida.
We know scams in the modern era are coming in all sorts of forms--robocalls, fake websites, emails, social media, text scams.
It also includes a manufacturing piece, 300 billion to strengthen domestic manufacturing in small businesses.
President Biden just recently unveiled the American Jobs Plan, and it includes research and development for future technologies.
These economic rivals constantly threaten us each day in this rivalry on the digital front line.
Cell phones, computers, and the internet are fundamental to our way of life as Americans.
We know coal ash is toxic, and it hurts both our brains and our nervous system, respiratory disease, cancer, and other developmental defects.
Fossil fuels are destroying our Earth, and we are going to do something about it.
On our march to carbon net-neutral by 2050, to my colleagues across the aisle, what is the plan?
The idea of more study, further delay of democracy, and outright denial of what just happened is not in line with the ideals of the Federalist Papers or the Constitution.
Only statehood provides that equal participation, guarantees U.S. citizenship, and represents a permanent and constitutional solution for Puerto Rico's status issue.
H.R. 2070's call for 'self-determination' is a fallacy since it does not consider the choice of Puerto Rican voters
H.R. 2070, ironically called the Puerto Rico Self-Determination Act, is the farthest thing from self-determination. It is the epitome of colonialism.
We deserve equality as American citizens. And we will not stop this fight until we achieve it.
If you claim to favor self-determination, then you must support what Puerto Rico's voters freely determined. And that means admitting Puerto Rico as a state.
But as Congressman Soto said after the 2017 plebiscite, choosing to boycott a vote on Puerto Rico's political status is a choice in itself.
Would not ignoring the recent referendum vote in Puerto Rico be another form of voter suppression?
