Bill Nelson is an American politician and attorney who served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2001 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously represented Florida's 9th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Nelson also held the position of Florida's Insurance Commissioner from 1995 to 1999, where he focused on consumer protection and insurance reform.
We need to dramatically grow our domestic seafood capacity, and I think marine aquaculture should be a part of that.
It's especially important to have aquaculture that is under conditions that are not just so nasty and putrid as we've learned about some of the aquaculture in foreign countries.
Investing in aquaculture as a national priority will send a very clear message calling needed attention to the opportunities for this Nation to better utilize our marine resources.
I recommend the United States heavily invest in the development of modern aquaculture much in the same way it invested in the development of the agriculture industry post World War II.
