Bill Nelson is an American politician and attorney who served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2001 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously represented Florida's 9th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Nelson also held the position of Florida's Insurance Commissioner from 1995 to 1999, where he focused on consumer protection and insurance reform.
In this regard, Senator Blumenthal and I have once again introduced such legislation, the Data Security and Breach Notification Act, which would require companies to secure their data and to promptly notify consumers when there is a breach.
A bipartisan bill must provide consumer protections that are better than is in the current law.
It would be better for Congress to pass no bill than to pass a bill that provides less protections to the consumers compared to the status quo.

Investing in aquaculture as a national priority will send a very clear message calling needed attention to the opportunities for this Nation to better utilize our marine resources.
I recommend the United States heavily invest in the development of modern aquaculture much in the same way it invested in the development of the agriculture industry post World War II.
It's especially important to have aquaculture that is under conditions that are not just so nasty and putrid as we've learned about some of the aquaculture in foreign countries.
