I join our colleagues in offering condolences to his family. I got to know him in the way that he is, a quietly effective person who, obviously, is a tremendous patriot and statesman and will be missed by all of us here in this Congress. I am grateful that I had the pleasure of getting to know such a distinguished gentleman as Herbert Bateman.
