Madam President, we have three counties in Delaware. The southernmost county is called Sussex County. Several years ago, I was privileged to visit a Methodist Church there and speak as a lay speaker to try to encourage people to become mentors. The minister that day was a great old guy, Reverend Reynolds. He is now deceased, but he said to me that day these words, and I have never forgotten them. He said, ``The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.'' That is what he said. ``The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.'' At first I wasn't sure what he was talking about, but the more I thought about it I thought: Boy, this guy is smart. And if I am smart, I will keep the main thing the main thing. For us in the Senate and in Congress, the main thing for the voters of this country is they want us to work together--well, maybe the two main things are they want us to work together--they want Democrats and Republicans to work together--and they want us to get things done. One of the things they want us to get done is to create what I call a nurturing environment for job creation and job preservation. They want us to do things that are going to help encourage the creation of jobs and the preservation of jobs.…
