The simple truth is this: RFE/RL, Inc. have enjoyed credibility for four decades precisely because their analysts and broadcasters have not been employees of the U.S. Government. If the radios now become direct agencies of the U.S. Government, they will maintain neither the appearance nor the reality of journalistic independence.
