Chris Coons: “I was really pleased to see $10 million included for the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program.”

It’s ridiculous that one of the first things an American hostage or wrongful detainee receives from the government when they return home from captivity is a tax bill.

Civic engagement lies at the heart of our democratic process.

I’ve been working for years to fix this flaw in our tax code to ensure that Americans currently held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad don’t owe thousands of dollars to the IRS when we finally bring them home.

I’m proud that my bipartisan work with Senator Cramer changed that, and I’m grateful to the Mental Health Association in Delaware for putting this funding to work and making sure more veterans can get the care they need.
