I understand you get a big piece like the Rescue Plan, well, you have got to throw everything else on hold.

Our democracy indeed is fragile, but the security of our seat of government should never be.

We must take the hard look at just what exactly happened on that dark day and what we need to do to ensure such an alarming breach, such an alarming failure of our Capitol security--this should never happen again.

These courageous women and men risked their lives to defend our democracy.

I am so grateful to join with you as we dig deeper into the security failures that occurred on January 6.

Are the Capitol Police being vaccinated? So many that I have talked to, as--now, I have heard that that is a direction we are going in.

In the midst of the constant and relentless heartbreak of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are still reeling from the events of January 6.

This is the first congressional hearing dedicated to an open conversation about mental health in the Congress.

It didn't take the chaos of January 6 or an insurrection for you to understand the needs of... wellness is critical.

I want to thank all of you today. And I do want to recognize both you, Chairman Ryan and Ranking Member Herrera Beutler.

I also want to thank Ms. Herrera Beutler for her support for the Office of Wellness, which we created a couple of years ago.

I am delighted to be here today to welcome Acting Director Shalanda Young back to the Appropriations Committee and offer my congratulations.

I want to say a thank-you to you for your leadership and your commitment to making the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit a reality.

This would practically double child poverty and increase taxes on middle class families, and I would just say not on our watch.

I was disappointed from the Senate Republican proposal to gut the Child Tax Credit to pay for the infrastructure package.

It is not enough just to make sure markets work. They need to work for everyone.

I am also a firm advocate for increased political disclosures, and will continue my work to provide the SEC the resources and authorities it needs to address this pressing issue.

I believe there was an attempted assault on the post office service by the previous administration.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans are now relying on the Postal Service for everything.

Under your leadership, on-time delivery for something as simple as a letter to a loved one declined to just 60 percent.

We have been successful. From 2015 to 2020, the ID theft numbers, the victims of ID theft went from 1.4 million to 96,000.

It is our privilege and responsibility to get this information out to the community.

It has been a successful program, but the fact is it is still 96,000 people and we need to keep our eye on it.
