I think we must stay in session for as long as it takes to get this plan done.

Well, we are trying to push the VA to do even more of that kind of telehealth, and the present Secretary of the VA, Dennis McDonough, is very much on board with that approach.

Telehealth and technology have made care more personal, not less.

It is really put up or shut up time for Republicans. I think they’ve heard this same message... do something, you need to do something.

Our red flag law, that Lindsey Graham and I have forged, can get 60 votes.

It is put up or shut up time for Republicans because, they have a job. It is United States senator, and if you failed to do your job and vote on a common sense solutions, then they ought to be out of a job.

Not a red herring because the country needs more mental health care.

The main proposals, from my standpoint, involve red flag laws.

We’ve never before had five Democrats and five Republicans, as we do right now, talking seriously about substantive and meaningful efforts and proposals, that will make America safer, and save lives.

There is something about how America has reacted, and how shaken my colleagues have been.

I am more hopeful, thank you for having me. But we need to be very clear eyed about the history, here I’ve been working on this history for the entire time, 12 years that I’ve been in the United States Senate.

I couldn’t come to work in a morning if I weren’t hopeful.

I think we have to translate that kind of emotion into action. Honor with action and it is a club that no one wants to join.

I hope that we can come together as a Congress, but I would simply say to all my colleagues in the United States Senate if this tragedy doesn't crystallize, your sense of obligation, then you are in effect putting guns above children.
