“I love this institution, and I am very grateful to serve here, but I am ashamed it has taken so long to address the post office scandal. This scandal has festered for nearly 3 years, and we have allowed it to happen. We're told the U.S. attorney does not want the House to conduct an investigation. What prosecutor wants to encourage another investigation? I have never met one who does. The Justice Department is looking at a criminal investigation, but we are talking about alleged serious violations of House rules. We are talking about House ethics. This is our jurisdiction and we must act. Mr. Speaker, we're told the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct has not acted because no one has brought forth a complaint. If the Committee continues to take no action and no one else brings a complaint, I will.”
