I must say, for me this is a very sad day, because if my colleagues really believe we need the best government money can buy, they must be thrilled. Let me put this in some kind of context. My average campaign contribution when I first got elected was $7.50. Today it is $50. So I really believe in the Jeffersonian concept that we should not have special interest money here. But nevertheless, this is going to allow more, more, more. Now we saw something historic. We saw the Committee on Rules report this first reform bill out, without any recommendation, because even they were embarrassed. It allowed a family of four to give $12.4 million. Oh, yes, they would be a real free agent if somebody gave them $12.4 million.
