Every year the Services consider potential projects and submit a prioritized list of projects

How important has this program been in your efforts to ensure the long-range sustainability of your test and training installations, ranges, and airspace?

With or without the expansion, Fort Carson should be a strong stationing candidate if this Germany-based BCT is relocated.

I think that you would agree that one of the key factors that go into a stationing decision is the training land an installation has.

I would argue, appropriate news, given the commitments on both sides that have been made.

This is, in part, tied to the Secretary of Defense's observation that we might be overstructured and undermanned, as I understand it.

I think you know, the State of Colorado, Colorado Springs community and our congressional delegation fought hard to get one of the Grow the Army brigades to be based at Fort Carson.

But I think this is something we can't let continue to just bounce along because of the needs you outlined.

I think it calls for a--and I'm editorializing, but for direct funding.

I'm frustrated that we rarely, if ever, actually direct all those Land and Water Conservation Funds into the purposes for which they were originally designed.

Do you think this is limiting your ability to engage youth?

I think it'd be fair to have the record show that Secretary Salazar has a deep commitment to youth activities and to youth recruitment.

Is it fair to say that some of the work that is done is really project directed and driven?

Many traditional programs of this type are fairly long in the time commitment demand, often at 12 weeks.

I support this if this is in fact the case, that you undertake this mission in part to recruit potential future employees.

I look forward to working with him. Perhaps he and I could exchange visits to some of the best park units in the whole country.

So this is $300 million of private money ready to be matched with $300 million of public money to upgrade and construct facilities?

Not insignificant. Why we continue to look into this issue.
