Is the issue Henry Foster's nomination to be Surgeon General? No, that is not the real issue. What is really going on? This nomination has become the battle ground over abortion rights. President Clinton could not have put it better. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare. Yet the Foster nomination has been seized upon by those who would criminalize choice. They see it as a chance to further their extreme agenda. Now we learn that last fall the Senate Republican Campaign Committee gave tens of thousands of dollars to the Right to Life Committee. The purpose: to increase the number of votes to criminalize choice. Let us get it straight--safe, rare, and legal.
