“However, with the NRC, whenever we are looking at the construction or the safety aspects of nuclear facilities throughout this country, they have certainly done a good job. We have not had one single death attributable to nuclear power in this country. The one thing I do not think we should be even talking about is a difference in the regulation of a private and a public utility, particularly when it comes to nuclear. Our particular subcommittee deals with all of these issues and I think that when we start talking about a difference and a different type of law that they would have to follow or rule that they have to follow, fine. Now if there is something out there that is unfunded as far as the safety or the construction or the operation of a particular power plant, then the Federal Government certainly should be involved in the funding of that particular mandate. But I think this goes along the same way as the Clean Air Act, the airport safety, and everything else, that if indeed it is unfunded, it should be funded by the Federal Government. When it comes to nuclear power facilities, they should all be treated the same.”
