“There is no tax money being used for abortions. That has been true since Henry Hyde served here with us. What this bill does is not address that issue. It really is intended to eliminate abortion coverage in private insurance plans. Our witness, Professor Wood, testified in the Judiciary Committee that eliminating the tax benefit, essentially raising taxes if a small business offers a broad insurance plan that includes abortion, will result in dropping that portion of the coverage. So this is really an extreme measure. I understand that not everyone believes that women should make this choice. If you are opposed to abortion, don't have an abortion. But don't put the Federal Government in charge of the decisions that are properly and legally made by women, along with their husbands and families. This is an extreme agenda. It is wrong, and I urge my colleagues to vote ``no.''”
