I just wanted to note that many in the California delegation are distressed that the much-needed $500 million for relief for the fire funding is tied up with the $87 billion for Iraq that many of us oppose. Tonight we have introduced a stand-alone bill to provide the same $500 million in relief for California, and we would urge that that be used as a vehicle instead of this supplemental. We think it is a problem to have the two mixed. It lends a political component to this that should never be present when we are dealing with victims of an awful tragedy such as this. So I wanted the whole House to know of the feeling of the 33 Democratic members of the California delegation that we ought to have a separate fire relief measure for California.
