let me mention one other provision within this amendment that does cause some concern, and that is a change again that was made to what came out of committee, the Committee on the Judiciary, in the immigration bill. That is a change that would permit someone who was sponsoring an immigrant coming into this country, and in the process of trying to meet the income threshold required to be able to sponsor, we provided for the case where there might be a joint sponsorship, so that if one wanted to come into this country and we had sponsors who were willing to obligate themselves to provide the support necessary for this immigrant to come into the country, that that would make it possible for this individual, this immigrant, to make it into the country. The change that is being made in this amendment would no longer allow individuals to be able to be jointly sponsoring an immigrant that wishes to come into this country, as a family member of otherwise. It makes it a requirement that the joint sponsor be a citizen. In and of itself, that is not bad.…
