“I, too, stand in opposition to the amendment. We have no evidence that there is a need for this. We should preserve jobs in our hospitals and our clinics for the nurses that have gone through the programs in this country and are ready to serve the people that are in need of medical care. Mr. Chairman, there is no need to reach out at this time. There was a perceived need back in the early 1990s. If there was a need, it has been met by those temporary or foreign nurses that came in. We do not need the program. It expired last year. There is no need to revive it. Let us get on with this and let us preserve jobs that are available for American nurses.”
