“Mr. Speaker, for 5 years we have heard the majority talk about changing the Tax Code and giving us something that is better. No one disagrees with that. All of us are here ready and prepared to discuss that. But now, for the last 5 years that we have been discussing it, nothing has been done. We have a bill on the floor that would say in about 4 years, let us get rid of the Tax Code we have, and who knows what we will replace it with? Now, if we are brought up here to be responsible, here to Washington, D.C., then let us give the American people some sense of where we will go. If we cannot do that, then the frustration the American people have expressed with our Tax Code will just grow and grow and grow. Yes, they are all fed up with this current Tax Code. Rather than become more simple, it has become more complex over these last 5 years. What is to make it less complex over the next 4 years as we get ready to scrap it? All we are going to get ready to do is create chaos. If you are an American and you are thinking of buying a home right now, what do you do? Do you buy right now, or wait 4 years from now? Because if we go with one of the ideas out there that we have a national sales tax replace our code where you would not have any more mortgage interest deductions and not be able to deduct the property taxes you pay on that home, should someone buy now, or wait 4 years?”
