Mr. Speaker, we have seen this movie before. In the mid-1990s, conservatives shut down the Federal Government, demanding cuts to Medicare, threatening the healthcare security of seniors. Just 2 years ago, the government was shut down as conservatives demanded an end to the Affordable Care Act, threatening the healthcare security of millions of Americans. This time, the demand is to end funding for Planned Parenthood, threatening the healthcare security of millions of women, many of them low income. A recent poll showed that more than 7 out of 10 Americans want Congress to do its job and reach a budget agreement, but like a bad horror movie franchise, the GOP keeps turning out shutdown sequel after shutdown sequel. Guess what--the American people don't get to walk out on this sequel. They have to sit and suffer through it. ____________________”
