I appreciate this opportunity to clarify the purpose for which my amendment seeks to authorize $4,000,000 for the establishment of a cooperative pilot program for remediation of a landfill at a closing base on the Superfund list. This amendment would authorize the Secretary of Defense to enter into a cooperative agreement with a public research institution of higher education to facilitate the development and demonstration of new methods and technologies for more effective and expedient environmental remediation at military installations, with the agreement structured to include public education and policy considerations.
